Nar Phu Valley Trek

Welcome to Nepal ! A representative from Crown Earth Trek will receive you at the airport and drop you at your hotel. On this day you will not do much but relax and go around your hotel location. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Thank you for choosing Limi valley trek as your next adventure destination! If you booked this trek long time back your permits are ready before you arrive but if it is a last minute booking you permits will be made on this day. While the back office is busy making permits on the back end, you will get involved in sightseeing some UNESCO world heritage sites. Some time in the day, you will as well do last minute preparation, packing and purchase if necessary. In the evening you will meet your guide and your guide will brief you about the trek.

We embark on the national highway as early as possible. Depending on the package of your choice, you will board either a private vehicle or a bus. The road of the first half is black topped and travels along rivers and showcases pretty lush green forests. Since it will be a very long bus journey all the way to Dharapani, you will break your day here at Besisahar. Overnight in Besisahar.

It is going to be another day on a vehicle but this time it is going to be an off road ride. The terrain changes dramatically as the vehicle climbs up to our destination of the day. You will make your way through lush gree forests, one of the biggest waterfalls dropping straight on the motorable road and the river Marshyangdi never leaves the sight. Overnight in Dharapani.

As a part of trekking ritual the day start early. We start by having breakfast at Dharapani and with the beautiful views of the mountains we move forward towards Bagarchhap. In season, you can enjoy beautiful blossoms of Rhododendron and walk through the forest of pine and oak. The views on the other hand of Ngadi Chuli and Manaslu is beyond spectacular. After registering at the police station and showing the special permit, you embark on the journey to Nar Phu valley. The trail drops steeply and crosses the Nar Phu stream. Much of today’s walk is in the shade of deep gorge. You will walk with the views of Annapurna wall behind you and past the campsite of ACAP. From the campsite the trail climbs and from hereon the trail is quiet and traverses through the forest of pine and bamboo. Around 4-5 hours of walk from Koto you will reach the ACAP campsite of Dharamshala. Overnight in Dharamshala.

The first section of the trail climbs more gently as compared to the second. You will walk the only trail left behind and walk past a white chorten and abandoned barley to the first settlement of Meta. The trail from hereon is more treacherous and the trail becomes a rollercoaster ride and traverses through glaciar moraines and ascends and descends to cross several streams. You will come across several chortens, goths and small huts in isolation until you reach Khyang. Overnight in Khyang.

You would descend to the gorge and the dry banks of Phu Khola. You will come across several chortens and ruined forts before reaching Phu. On this section of the trail, keep your eyes open for the blue sheeps grazing on the gray hills. Around 2 to 2 ½ hours from Khyang and you will reach Phupi Gyalgoe Gate, from where you enter to the Phu region. Overnight in Phu.

Phu village is an interesting village that deserves at least a day worth of sightseeing. This village has roughly around 40 houses and the only thing that remains in between this village and Tibet is the peak of Bhrikuti (6364 m). The valley is dry and deserted and receives huge amount of snow in winter. The name ‘Phu’ means head and is considered as the most important village of the entire region. The village houses two gompas namely Tashi Lhakhang Gompa and Samtenling Gompa. The later one is closed most of the times and the initial one is of more importance and worth observing. You would now descend down the same trail that you took on your way up. You would first reach Kyang, followed by Chyarkha and then Jhunam. Furthermore, you will walk 45 minutes past Jhunam to find the trail that branches to Nar. At certain point of the trail you will come across beautiful hoodoos rising above sandy gullies on the both end of Dho khola. Once you cross Dho Khola over a rustic pool, you will come across ACAP campsite. From here, our destination Nar Phedi is a short distance. Our campsite will be by Narsadak Changu Tashi Choling Gompa. Overnight in Nar Phedi.

The trail climbs steeply and it does not get easier for slightly over an hour. Once you reach to the top, the trail drops and offers a jaw dropping and eye popping view of Tilicho peak. Furthermore, you will make your way through traditional gates and beautiful chorten until you come across Nar village settled around barley fields. There are few basic lodges in Nar village and we have the option of not camping on this day. Overnight in Nar village.

With around 60 houses stacked together, Nar is bigger village than Phu. Nar means the land of blue sheep in the local language. You will witness prayer flags, mani walls and other religious activities throughout the village. In a village with 60 households are 4 Kagyud gompas. These gompas are made from available local resources and are worth the explore. Overnight in Nar village.

The first hour of retracing your way back takes you to Kang La Phedi. The view of Tilicho from different angles is beautiful. The most difficult section of the trek is climbing the pass of Kang La at 5320 meters from the sea level. The pass is very difficult to cross in bad weather and snowy conditions. However, if the weather is good, you can get the best and up close view of mountains Annapurna, Gangapurna and Tilicho Peaks. Overnight in medieval town of Ngawal.

It's a short and pleasant stroll from Ngawal to Manang with beautiful views at almost all sides. From here there are several trails that lead to the flat basins of Marshyangdi river. From here, the trail enters a beautiful forest section which leads to the village of Mungji. From here the trail meets the regular annapurna circuit trail. The trail then leads to the 500 year old village of braga and further down you will reach Manang. Overnight in Manang.

Manang to Besisahar is a long yet worthy drive over to walking on the same jeep trail to Chame. You also have an option to walk to chame in case the jeep not to be found anywhere or if you desire to spend a day more on the trail. However, the jeep ride is an exhilarating one that takes almost the entire day. The entire journey is on off road track. Once in Besisahar, you will be transferred to the hotel. The hotel would be better than the one ones in the mountains but wouldnt be very lavish. Overnight in Besisahar.

We embark on the national highway as early as possible and follow the same highway taken on our way to Besisahar. Depending on the package of your choice, you will board either a private vehicle or a bus. The road travels along rivers and showcases pretty lush green forests. Once in Kathmandu we transfer you to your hotel and hence, Nar Phu trek comes to an official end.

Our journey in Nepal comes to an end today! A Crown Earth representative will escort us to the airport approximately 3 hours before our scheduled flight. On our way home, we have plenty of time to plan our next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.
