Overview

Everest Gokyo trek is another off the beaten trek in the Everest region which has made to the list of must do hikes in many popular articles around the world. Very truly it is one of those treks which is awe inspiring in every norms and would not fail to mesmerize you. It has every element in very right proportion to make sure you get the adventure you are looking for, push yourself to a vertical limit and simultaneously not fall sick as well as exhaust yourself.

The main attractions of the Everest gokyo trek are the Gokyo lakes itself. Gokyos are freshwater lakes, formed from the glacial melts of high Himalayas. There are 6 lakes in total and the biggest is the third lake where you would accommodate at least a night. The names of the 6 lakes are; Longpongba, the first lake the first lake, Taujung (4720 m) the second lake, Gokyo the third lake, Donag(4870m) the fourth lake, Ngozumpa (4990m) the fifth lake and Gyazumpa (5150m) the sixth lake. The sixth lake is as well known as Cho Oyu 1st base camp.  You will see the first, and the second lake on your way up and accommodate by the third. Furthermore, you will treat yourselves with the views of the 4th and 5th lakes on the acclimatization day. Unfortunately, you will not be able see the 6th lake, as it would require a lot more than just trekking. However, by the end of the trek you will explore most of the Gokyo valley including Gokyo Ri, a beautiful vantage point.

Besides visiting these emerald green lakes, Everest Gokyo trek will take you to the base camp of Everest itself. To add up, you will hike to one of the highly acclaimed viewpoints of Kalapatthar, which will as well be the zenith of this trek. If you are concerned on missing out the sherpa culture along the trail, there is good news for you, you will be able to see beautiful villages of Namche and Tengboche which radiates beautiful Sherpa culture. Day 03: Kathmandu – Lukla (2,642m/8,668ft) – Phakding (2,562m/8,700ft): 35 min flight, 8km, 3-4 hrs trek

Day 04: Phakding – Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,280ft): 10km, 5-6 hrs

Day 05: Namche Bazaar – rest, acclimatization and exploration day

Day 06:Trek to Phortse Tenga (3675m/12057ft) : 3-4 hours

Day 07: Trek to Machhermo (4410m/14468ft): 3-4 hours

Day 08: Trek to Gokyo (4750m/15584ft): 3-4 hours

Day 09: Gokyo acclimatization and excursion

Day 10: Trek to Thangnak (4678m/15348ft): 6-7 hours

Day 11: Trek to Dzongla(4860m/15945ft) via Chola Pass (5368m/17612ft) : 8-9 hours

Day 12: Trek to Lobuche (4940m/16207ft) : 3-4 hours

Day 13: Trek to Gorak Shep(5,160m/16,929ft) -Everest Base Camp(5364m/17598ft) -Gorak Shep: 5-6 hours

Day 14:Trek to Kala patthar(5550m/18208ft) – Gorak Shep(5160m/16929ft) – Pheriche(4280m/14042ft): 6- 7                 hours

Day 15: Trek to Namche Bazaar(3440m/11286ft): 6-7 hours

Day 16: Trek to Lukla (2,642m/8,668ft) : 6-7 hours

Day 17: Fly back to Kathmandu
