Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek

You will arrive on this day to Tribhuvan International airport, in Kathmandu. A representative from Crown Earth Trekwill transfer you at your hotel. You can take your time to stroll around and see the surrounding of your accommodation.

On this day we get busy with couple of things; one making the last minute paperwork for your trekking and second, sightseeing some rare UNESCO world heritage sites. Meanwhile, our backend staff will make ready all the permits to take along on the trail. Simultaneously, our guide will help you get acquainted with the country by taking you to different heritage sites. In the evening, you will be briefed about your trek either in your hotel or over the dinner.

The drive to Shivalaya, which makes its way through Jiri, is around 260 kilometers and takes around 8 - 10 hours depending on the road condition and the vehicle on board. You would begin the journey on Araniko Highway and then further branch off to BP highway and finally to Sagarmatha Highway. The road, although narrow, to Jiri is black topped. Further from Jiri, the 61 kilometer ride on off road is bumpy and amazing experience. Since you will have to walk on motorable road if you decide to walk from Jiri and it will not be a pleasant experience. Overnight in Shivalaya.

Around 50 meters from the riverside settlement of Shivalaya you will begin climbing. From the very beginning of the trek the trail climbs through hamlets, bhattis and villages. Mostly you will climb up the dirt road and at times through the forest and Sherpa villages. It is not a long trek but within 4 - 5 hours you will make 900 meters in ascent and 600 meters in descend. You will make your way through Sangba Danda, Khasrubas, Deurali and then finally to Bhandar. Overnight in Bhandar.

Another day on the trail in the tropical region, making around 1000 meters in ascend and 650 meters in descend. The trail first drops to Likhu Khola and then further climbs up to Kinja where you will see destruction caused by 2015 earthquake. However, the renovation process is very speedy and the scene of devastation may not last over few more years. From Kinja the trail gets very steep and climbs upwards to Chimbu. From here the trail descends through a gully and occasionally makes its way through mani walls until Sete. Overnight in Sete.

The first half of the trail is the most difficult section of the trek as the trail directly picks up to Lamajura Pass. This pass as well is considered as the highest point in between Jiri and Lukla. The trail however is through moss covered dense forest of rhododendron, hemlock, magnolia, maple and birch. If around lunch time on the top of the pass, you may get good views of snow clad peaks in the Rolwaling side. From the pass, the trail drops very easily and gradually all the way to Junbesi. The trail traverses through beautiful villages, few mani walls and matra painted rocks. On this day, if weather permits, you will see the peak namely Numbur. Overnight in Junbesi.

It is going to be a lots of ups and downs on this day as you ascend slightly above 900 meters and drop more than 1200 meters. The entire day is going to last for around 7 - 8 hours with easy pace. You begin climbing on a pleasant forest all the way to Phurteng from where you would be rewarded with first view of Everest. If weather permits, you will as well see Thamserku, Kantega, Kyashar, Kusum Kangru, and Mera Peak. From this view, the trail descends through pine forest to the hamlet of Salung. You make your way through some traditional villages homing apple and peach orchards, high passes and Gompas to reach Nunthala. Overnight in Nunthala.

The trail drops outside Nunthala and then the uphill journey begins. Mostly, the trails remains along the Dudh Koshi river crossing it several times. The trails makes its way through villages and hamlets and through their fields of wheat, barley and maize. Furthermore, you will come across Pema Namding Gompa ran by Sikkim Buddhist before you make your way to Bupsa. Overnight in Bupsa.

From beyond Bupsa, the trail branches and one of the trails lead to Lukla whereas the other leads to Phakding via Cheplung. The trail to Cheplung is more easier and gradual than the trail bound to Lukla. It takes around 7 hours until you reach Phakding from where you will be joined by the trekkers trekking from Lukla. Overnight in Phakding.

You will embark on the same undulating trail that you had left on the previous day. Immediately outside Phakding keep your eyes open while the trail traverses through the forest of Rhododendron, pine and fir as it is home of some wild habitats. On this day, majority of the trail stays on the banks of raging Dudh Koshi river. On several occasions you will we cross rustic suspension bridge that leads in and out of beautiful Sherpa village and hamlets. From Monjo you will make an entry in the Sagarmatha National park and soon you will be greeted by snow clad Thamserku 6608m. The final ascent to Namche Bazaar through sheer, crisscross and traverses through pine scented trail. This section of the trek is the most difficult section of the day. Overnight in Namche. .

remain active and ascend to higher ground and fall back in Namche. It is a very good day as well to explore the town its rich Sherpa culture and impeccable short hikes in the periphery. Namche is interesting village or town which has house built in cascading hills and looks like an amphitheatre from a This day is set aside for acclimatization. Although it is mentioned as a rest day it is recommended to distance. This is the most happening village throughout the Everest base camp trek or even in the region of Everest. On this day we hike to Syngboche airport; one of the high altitude, non commercial air strip. Depending on the weather conditions a short hike to higher ground and back will be done. Overnight in Namche. .

You will walk through a dense forest of Rhododendron and Pine immediately past namche. This is the very community forest where you will hear yak bells zingle made by the grazing yaks. As we make our way on the trails through the forest of Rhododendron we have to keep our eyes open for Himalayan Thar and Musk Deer. The trail is almost gradual uphill but the final 2 hours ascent is tough and probably the most difficult section of the day’s walk. You will see some water charged mani wheels and some amazing views of twin peak, Ama Dablam, Lhotse and even Everest before even reaching the final destination. You arrive at Tengboche which is a wide open grassy flat land where resides Tenboche monastery; famous and one of the largest in the Everest region. Overnight in Tengboche.

With every spur you take towards your final destination of the day, the mountains appear closer and get bigger. On this day you will leisurely walk down hill at first and slowly start climbing. The trail is almost uphill all the way to Dingboche from a stream namely Khumbu Khola. Walking almost 3 hours uphill you will reach Dingboche. You will be welcomed to the village by gorgeous view of Island peak 6189 m, Peak 38 (7,591m) and Lhotse (8501 m). We call it a day here and rest for the night. .

Dingboche is a lovely place; even is such altitude it receives prolonged sunrise and the wind blows more calmly , compared to that of Periche. Acclimatization is again important at this elevation and will help you to cope up with rapid increase in elevation in days to come. Alike Lukla and although a rest day, you will spend a day in Dingboche hiking to nearby viewpoints or peaks or higher ground and fall back to Dingboche. It is uttermost important to stay active when in dingboche and try avoiding sleeping. You will trek around 400m most likely to Nangkartshang Gompa, an excellent viewpoint for mountains in Everest. Nevertheless, the hiking destination will be decided then and there by the guest and the guide. Overnight in Dingboche.

Every single stem and the mountains look at a stone throw distance or within the reach of your palms. The views of Kantega, Ama Dablam and other mountains will definitely help you forget the pain of walking. The trail in not completely uphill but at times it gets horizontal as well. The terrain of today’s walk is barren and with no or very less vegetation. At one time, you will have to take a utter and nerve wrecking uphill to a memorial that commemorates mountaineer who lost their lives in 2001. This is the most difficult ascend of the day. Further you will ascent all the way to Labuche with the view of soaring Thamserku in front and smell of Rhododendron in the air. .Overnight in Lobuche.

The trek is going to be slow and very tedious as you will be walking beyond 4000 meters. Most of the days initial trek traverses through the narrow gap between glacier moraine and the mountain. You will make a very small but difficult climb to more technically difficult moraine with the first sighting to Gorakshep. Gorakshep is a temporary hamlet just to serve trekkers trekking to base camp of the Everest. Moreover this place acts like the launching pad for the peak of Kala Patthar. We recommend you to visit Kalapatthar on this day as the sunset view is more beautiful. However, many people prefer Kalapatthar in the morning but it is not recommended due to the ruined view from sunrise behind the Everest. We either trek to Everest base camp or Kalapatthar and trek back to Gorakshep and spend the night.

If you scaled Kalapatthar on the previous day, you will most likely hike to the first base camp of Everest on this day before you start descending to Pheriche. The trek to base camp is comparatively easier than Kalapatthar. However, you will ascend 200m the the base camp which will consume around 3 hours. After spending brief moments in Everest base camp we trek down for another hour to Gorakshep and further down to Periche in Next 3-4 hours. Overnight in Pheriche.

From Periche you will descend to scenic Imja River and make small and easy ascent and walk through the forest of Rhododendron and Fir. You walk majorly through the banks of Imja stream and Dudh Koshi until an uphill to Tengboche. From here you will descend down to Phunki Thanga and final uphill for around an hour to you will reach Namche. Overnight in Namche.

Although we start early and it is all descend from Namche to lukla, it is claimed to be the hardest downhill in the entire Everest base camp route. The remorseless incline makes it difficult on the knees but there is always an option to slow down the pace and stroll easy. One you reach Benkar the trail is almost horizontal to Phakding and further down, Lukla and very easy for the knees. Overnight in Lukla.

We board an early morning flight on the world’s most adventurous before the weather is wrecked. With the views of the beautiful peaks on our right we head towards Kathmandu.
